What to do with this redirect

[edit]

I know that the current redirect is not ideal because it redirects a field of medicine (general medicine) to a profession (general practitioner). However, I think that it is far better than the old redirect to "internal medicine", which is entirely different, at least in the United States. I think the choices we have are to:

  1. Keep the redirect as it is
  2. Redirect to family medicine, possibly changing the name of the article to "general medicine" or at least giving "general medicine" as an alternative term
  3. Rename "general practitioner" to "general medicine", maybe split "general practitioner" into an article of its own with some of the material already there (a general practitioner would be someone who practices general medicine, like a surgeon is someone who performs surgery)
  4. Start an article here at "general medicine" and let the article at "general practitioner" be about how to become someone who practices general medicine

If anyone wants to contact me about this, please use my talk page, as I will not notice a reply given here. Thanks, Kjkolb (talk) 03:53, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
